Ann, I'll Admit I Was Wrong

I can honestly say I haven't purchased much at Ann Taylor in recent years.  Though I walk by one quite regularly (because you know, I'm addicted to shopping) I never go in.  That is, until yesterday when I was trying to avoid the dreaded nap time for my toddler.  Much to my surprise there was a TON of really cute stuff. It became even better when I found the sale stuff was an additional 50% off!
This is a hard time of year to shop. You feel bad forking over cash for something you might just wear a few times before the season ends.  Not to worry, I can help you justify spending any amount of money on clothes 365 days a year.  You can take a lighter weight summer item and wear it into fall by adding layers.  A wool sweater in 80 degree heat is a little harder to justify.

Take for example this skirt! This month pair it with some cute flats and a skinny t-shirt.  Next month add some tights, knee high boots and a cute denim jacket.  In December, trade the denim for your favorite bulky knit.

Pintucked Georgette Skirt

This blouse is also transferable into the fall. Wear it with a cute long open cardigan or your leather jacket and skinny jeans.  If you're feeling super edgy now you can wear it cut-off shorts and some wedges.

Embroidered Femme Top

Both items combined came to $76 at checkout.  What a deal.  Ann Taylor, Gelty will be back

Jeans I can't believe it is already Friday!

Where did the week go!?! Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled it is Friday! To start the weekend off right I am going to hit up the Garment District this afternoon (shhh don't tell my husband). If you live in Denver and have never been, today is the day to check it out. This is THE place to go in town for designer jeans. If you're thinking to yourself, "the last thing I need is another pair of jeans," you're wrong. You can NEVER have enough jeans. Period. To top it all off, this weekend the store is offering 20% off their sale merchandise. This means that you can get great jeans for less money than if you bought average jeans at the Gap. The store also sells great shoes, handbags, other designer clothes that will also be on sale.  The staff is ridiculously helpful, and not in a pushy way.

Hope to see you there. http://www.garmentdistrictcolorado.com/women/women.html

Canned Goods, Literally

I am not the most philanthropic person around, for unknown reasons, really.  But when I hear of something great that helps others I am usually all for it.  So the other day I am out and about shopping for a change and I across these awesome earrings!
I come to find out that the man who made these (out of tin cans nonetheless) did so in an attempt to give his wife a traditional tin gift on their ten year anniversary.  Instantly I'm in love ( with the earrings of course ). Then to top it all off I find out that a can of food is donated to a reputable organization with each purchase.  Move over Toms, fashion over comfort any day of the week!

So excited about my good deed I wore them the very next day and received a ton of compliments! To make it even better my ears got a break from the heavy earrings I LITERALLY wear everyday! The product is weightless!

The owner and creator of these beauties lives in Denver and sells his product at various retailers across the state.  They are also available in Illnios and online at Etsy.
http://www.cannedgoods.net

Seattle, Portland, Bay Area, Denver peeps, this product is right up your alley!  I encourage all of you find something you like on the canned goods site and buy, buy, buy.

Let's Support Local Business

I am proud to announce that Gelty is listed as a partner with Plum Consignment in Denver.

If you haven't been to this gem of a shop in Stapleton you should go. They have a great selection of merchandise at very reasonable prices.  In addition they consign maternity clothes and kids clothes.  If you choose to consign items with them they do a 60/40 split, but if you buy something with the cash you earn, it becomes a 50/50 split.  The owner, Crystal Stephen, also believes in supporting local businesses.  She has a great variety of jewelry from local artists, and home goods too.

Shopping consignment stores is a great way to update your wardrobe.  Clothes sitting in your closet are likely of no value if you don't wear them.  Consign them, make some money, and buy some stuff you really love.  One good piece that you can wear over and over again is far better than a lot of pieces you don't want to put on.

How to Wear a Midi-skirt

So two things happened to me today that I never thought were possible.
  • I found an article of clothing that I love at a consignment shop
  • It so happens to be a denim skirt that I have been on the quest for for well over three years. I know that this seems silly, but 99% of denim skirts make me look ten pounds heavier than I am.  I was looking for the perfect mix of slimming and slouchy and believe it or not that is hard to come by.
I present to you a midi denim skirt by MOTHER
Originally $82 purchased for $20
Now I am confronted with how to wear a midi! A little online research and I am convinced of the following.
  • High-heel, pointed toe shoes are a must (see yesterday's post)
  • Slim fitting top with the perfect length just above the hip (I could wear a crop top, but trust me, you don't want to see me in one)
  • Or for the first time since 9th grade I can consider tucking in a shirt.
Here are some of the looks I saw online and love!  Go out get a midi, I think you'll love it too.

When The Shoe Fits

Thank you whowhatwear.com for your article today on the pointed-toe heel. Deemed the shoe that is flattering to everyone, I feel like I need to get out today and update my shoe collection.  Who wouldn't want the effects of a "sharp toe that extends the line of your leg and gives the illusion of slimmer, longer gams."  http://www.whowhatwear.com/shop-pointed-toe-heels/slide4

I LOVE the selections from whowhatwear but their price points are a little steep. Though you can find a pointed-toe pump just about anywhere, this is what I found online, on sale, with a little bit of pizazz.

Just because you own something typical, doesn't mean you have to be predictable.  Get your shoes on and get shopping.

LAMB Sandy Mesh Point-Toe Pump, www.lastcall.com, originally $225, now $84.50

DVF Betty Suede Combo Point-Toe Pump, www.lastcall.com, originally $425, now $164.50

Paul Andrew Zenadia Suede Peaked Vamp Pump, www.neimanmarcus.com, originally $695, now $312

Feel Free to Let Your Legs Take a Breather

Sitting here with my mother she is concerned about her "60 year old knees" showing in short dresses. I can't say that I am a fan of pantyhose, I much prefer tights, but I understand her concern. Personally I would opt for a good spray tan if showing my knees was a once a year event. Her is some alternate advice if you are so inclined.

I'll Take Two of These Please

Lovely Amuze, at it again. Valentino flash sale started yesterday and I can't stop thinking about these shoes! If anyone is feeling super generous, I'll take the black pair in a size 10.  Originally $995, now $275. Still pricey for sure but I am willing to bet they are worth the $$$

Kiss Your Chapstick Goodbye

Though I don't normally post about cosmetics I thought I could make an exception today for a few reasons.
  • I informed you yesterday of four amazing sales.
  • This post will change your life.
  • The right cosmetics can really amp up your style.
For as long as I can remember I've had chapped lips.  In addition to constantly being on the quest for the perfect hair, I have looked high and low for the world's best lip moisturizer. I grew up thinking Bag Balm was the cure-all for life's ailments, including chapped lips (if you are unfamiliar with this product, I dare you to look it up).  My mother, still to this day, buys Clinique's Mauve Glaze  and applies it with a retractable brush to keep her lips moist.  While I could retreat to what's familiar, I found a fantastic product on a whim a few weeks ago and it has literally transformed my lips.

If you haven't checked out the the website, www.rankandstyle.com, you should.  At Target in early July, I decided to find their opinion on the best over-the-counter lip gloss.  Alas, I present to you Revlon's Super Lustrous Lip Gloss.  Available in a wide variety of colors, this lip gloss is super silky and shiny without being tacky.  I have used it multiple times a day for the last few weeks and I haven't used my Bag Balm at all!  At under $7 a tube, you can afford to try all the colors for less than some tubes of lipstick you'd buy at a department store.

If you don't want to take my word for it, check out what Allure Magazine had to say.

In Honor of National Underwear Day

Thank you to our friends at http://www.whowhatwear.com we now know that today is National Underwear Day (not sure how we missed this on the calendar).  In the spirit of the holiday and in the spirit of Gelty, here are some excellent finds at some of our favorie retailers.  There are plenty more options online including different styles, colors and sizes.

In our professional opinion, Gap Body makes the best underwear.  The price point is great with special volume discounts (and by volume we don't mean size).  If you haven't tried their all cotton thongs yet, you need to spend the money and give one pair a try.  They will change your life and your perception of thong underwear.

Here is the link to all of the Gap underwear so choose what you like, http://www.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=1015387

You can't go wrong with Natori and Wacoal bras.  These puppies will last the whole day through with great support and comfort. As a bonus, their price point, even when not on sale, is perfectly reasonable.
At Saks- Wacoal Superchic T-shirt Bra (in black or nude)- originally $65, now $39.

At Neiman Marcus- Reverie Sweetheart Contour Bra- originally $74, now $33

Back to School

Just weeks away from back to school and the ever pressing issue of what your kids should wear.  For those of you lucky enough to have children too young to really have their own opinion, count your blessings.  For those of you with pre-teen and teens this can be a rough time of year.  We will start to see all kinds of Back to School sales in the coming weeks, but we thought for today, the first Monday in August, that we would focus on an oldie but a goodie, and see what the GAP has to offer for fall trends and sales.

The Gap online, www.gap.com usually runs some sort of discount daily.  Today card members get 40% off their purchase, 35% off for everyone else.  Because their clothes are so reasonably priced the discount makes them outright inexpensive and perfect for your kids who will change their minds on a dime about what they want to wear.

A great fashion trend right now is a modern mix of girlish/ boyish styles together in single outfits.  This can be perfect for the girl who just wants to be one of the guys, but still be a girl, without the androgyny factor.  Try some of these ideas for your kids, all found at the Gap.

*Tights, a denim skirt, hi-top sneakers and a sweatshirt
* Pattern leggings, ankle boots, and a quilted jacket with a logo t-shirt.
* A-line dress, high-tops or booties, jean jacket and tights.
* Black jeans, button down blouse of choice with a floral or girly plaid print
