The after baby wardrobe

Yesterday was filled with baby, baby, baby - I sort of feel like it was God's way of telling me not to have the third. Ok, I lied, I made that decision long before yesterday. Anyway, regardless of where you are in your pregnancy, seven months pregnant or four months postpartum, your body is not the same as it was last year, or the year before, and definitely not like it was in college (think tankini instead of bikini, right?)

I don't know a single mom who doesn't want to be that "hot mom", you know, the one we all envy. You've seen her around town, totting around her three kids, likely a set of twins and a new born, in her six-foot tall, size zero body, with her hot dad of a husband carrying the diaper bag. Here's the thing, "hot" is in the eye of the beholder. I don't know about you, but I'd rather be comfortable, yet stylish, rather than high maintenance. Though, if you asked my husband, he'd tell you I am very high maintenance. Little does he know....

So after the baby comes, you've breastfed the weight off and you still feel uncomfortable in your own skin- it is time to revisit your clothes. The low rise jeans you wore before, might not be the best choice as you chase kids around for the next few years. The button-up blouses you lived in before, no longer close- thank you boobs and expanded rib-cage. Perhaps you don't need your work pants anymore because your job location changed. You're now CEO of your home instead of middle manager in a job you hated. You can't fit into your shoes because your feet grew a whole size. You look in your closet and think to yourself, "I have nothing to wear", and for the first time in your life, it is actually true.

Does this mean you run to J. Jill and fill your closet with frumpy, shapeless clothes? Nope. Please don't. You might feel like you sixty, but you're not. Go for mid-rise jeans, tunic blouses, relaxed pants, maxi-skirts and easy dresses. Here are some of my favorite, on sale of course.

Size 2? Size 4? I have a ten spot for you.

How many of you went to Starbucks this weekend with your kids? Did you get a manicure, or have too many happy hour drinks on Friday? These ten dollar purchases lasted anywhere from twenty minutes, to a week, what if you could spend $10 on a classic article of clothing, that you just might live in, for a lifetime?
These pants are not on consignment, they are not at a discount retailer. They are at Garbarini's in Cherry Creek.  Investment pieces are classics that will get you through all life's important events without being trendy or cheap quality.  When was the last time you made a $10 investment that had the same yield?!?!

Milly black pants, true waist trouser, size 2. Originally $295, now $10
Robert Rodriguez, contrast print pant, cropped, size 2. Originally $295, now $29
Vertigo, terry wool touch navy pinstripe trouser, size 4. Originally $175, now $10

Go to Garbarini's and see for yourself how affordable, high end fashion can be.  Tell them Gelty sent you.

90% off, Steals my Heart Again.

$278 shoes for $26

$195 shoes for $26
$265 pants for $29
$255 shrug sweater for $29

This time every year, Cherry Creek hosts a sidewalk sale for all the merchants. Discounts vary by store, but without a doubt, there are some amazing finds.  Traditionally, the sale runs from Thursday to Sunday, but a lot of retailers are starting the sale early.  Garbarini's is one of them, and their sale cannot be missed.

I went in today and, without exaggeration, could have easily spent five times the amount I did.  I was so impressed with the selection, I brought a client into the store, right after I left.  She proceeded to spend a fair chunk of change on two dresses, two pants, two pair of shoes, two tops and jean shorts.  She easily bought $3000 worth of merchandise for a faction of the cost.

The best way to tackle the sale, is to go early, and ask for help!  I don't care if you need to take a vacation day to get there before Thursday, I am not here to judge you.  Come Thursday, it will be so busy, you'll be lucky to see whats available.  Two of the four items mentioned above are pictured below.  These are the work staples I found, your selection will likely be different.  If you are a size 2-6 the selection is unreal. Beautiful dresses for $95, that were well over $400 to begin with. Novelty denim galore with super fun tops to match.  Not a size 4, that's ok!  There is still plenty to choose from, including gorgeous leather jackets, shoes, beautiful handbags, tops, etc.

Milly Cropped Trousers, originally $265, now $29.  Proud these are now my pants, sad that this is not my butt.

Michael Kors, Suede Wedge Sandal, originally $195, now $26
Please go visit Garbarini's and tell them Gelty sent you, 239 Detroit Street, in Cherry Creek North

Fashionable Finds Fit for Those Approaching Forty and Those Already Forty-Four

Do you see these pants?  Of course you do. I've put them front and center to the page.
Banana Republic, Sleek Wide Leg Gaucho Pant
Why you ask? Because between now and the end of August, or possibly later, these pants are going to be front and center of your wardrobe.  In the last two days I have helped two women build out their work wardrobes.  One needed a complete overhaul (she also bought these in white) and the other needed some refinement for a business trip. One was a  super sweet mom of two boys who runs a business with her husband, the other, also super sweet (I have to say this, she's my friend), works in Tech and travels abroad regularly for work.  The latter is also my Sunday drinking partner, which is a total digression, but clearly illustrates how these two women live totally different lives.

They do however, have one two things in common. 1) Both were apprehensive of the pant at first sight. 2) They fell in love instantly, once they put them on.

The versatility of these pants is endless.  Tucked in blouse with cute shoes, like the model above, is great for work.  A lace top with sexy heels turn this look from work to workin' it. You can match it with a cropped top and flats. You can throw on a t-shirt and some espadrilles and go to brunch.

Have I convinced you yet?  No? Ok, what if I told you they are on sales now at Banana Republic for about $62. And, for another $20-$30 you can find a really cute, event appropriate, top in their countless sale racks that are now an extra 60% off the sale price.

I hear all of the women out there standing at 5'2" saying "I cant wear a cropped pant."  Yes you can!  All you need is a high heel to elongate your leg. Try one in nude and everyone will think you're 5'5".  Save your flip flops for your sweatpants.

Long story short- go to Banana Republic this week and elevate your style a bit, without spending a ton of money.  If you need my help, needless to say, I am well versed in their current inventory

Pure beauty in Denver

This quite possibly might be my favorite time of year! There are sales galore going on, with seriously deep discounts.  I found out about Lawrence Covell from a client of mine a few months ago. When I found out their summer sale started today, I was effectivly knocking down the down at 10:30 this morning.  I had my heart set on everything in the store, on sale, marked down from 30% to 80% .  From basic jeans and t-shirts to beautiful slacks and dresses, everything at LC is well curated and exquisite. I probably had my eye on about twenty things, but the two dresses below really caught my eye as being different, beautiful and a steal!

From top to bottom, here are the details.
Dres Von Notten, Doria dress, originally $1995, now $1100.

Chris Benz, Lame Rudy Dress, originally $895, now $210

Dres Von Notten, Nepalese Fringe Sweater Camo, originally $430,  now $240

Now all I need is a larger shopping budget and somewhere to wear these stunners.

I'm not overall it, yet.

1995, Whittier, CA, baggy overalls with tight t-shirts were all the rage. I was thankful as my freshman-fifteen was more like the freshman-forty. My girlfriends loved the look too, though their weight gain was significantly less.  Walking around campus, we all looked the same! It is amazing any of us got dates or even invited to parties.

Today overalls are so different, and so cute.  Think edgy and sporty instead of Salt n Pepa.

How cute is this look? I want to be this girl, on a multitude of levels.  This look is from Shopbop, who is now offering 25%off their sale items, taking discounts to as much as 85% off.

Alexa Chung x AG Tennesee Overalls originally $325, now $170.63.

Mother's Day or Father's Day, you choose.

I came to a conclusion this morning, that Mother's Day is about the moms.  Dads of the world take their kids for the day, so moms can take a break.  Father's Day is also about the moms.  Moms convince their husbands that they need to spend much needed time with the kids, alone. Being the methodical creatures that we are, we support this bonding activity in an attempt to have another "break."

After wearing this kids out at the pool this morning, we went home so they could take a nap. Sadly, the hubs needed a little rest too, so off I went.

If you've never been, Gabarini's is a fantastic boutique in Cherry Creek, with great labels and amazing selection.  I normally save my shopping trip to Gabarini's for July's sidewalk sale, when it is common to find items originally over $100 for 75% off or more. But today, while on a detour to Target "Boutique" I stumbled upon sales signs, outside their door, calling my name. I had to go in.

Let's say is together now, "buy one, get one free".  I couldn't believe it.  Racks upon racks of goodies.  Here is the shoe rack, where I easily could have bought every pair in my size.

But then I hit the clothing racks, only to find more things I wanted.  Thankfully, the sale wasn't full of stipulations.  If I wanted, which I did, to buy a pair of shoes and get a pair on pants for free, that was o.k.  Simply put, this sale was like a dream come true. Below are just some the amazing finds from today, from left to right.

Benson NYC camo pants- $29, originally $113.
Monrow purple linen pants- $49, originally $140
Etienne Marcel printed jeans- $98, originally $175
Marrakech stripped linen pant, with the cutest ruffle pockets- $109, originally $135.

The sale lasts until the product is gone. So go in, buy the pants I love, since I didn't, and get a free pair of something else awesome.
The pants I could live in.

My Case for Dresses

Nothing says summer like a breezy dress.  Well, one hundred degree heat also says summer, but I digress.

Dresses are the end all be all of easy dressing.
1) There is nothing to mix and match
2) Getting dressed is a one step process
3) Buying a dress can be the most economical way to get dressed, especially when they are on sale and the marked down again.

Imagine this... Monday morning, after hitting the snooze button five times and now running more than five minutes late and you have no idea what to wear to work (I am not saying this always happens me Monday through Friday ).  Quick check of the weather and sweltering heat is in the forecast.  You go to your closet and find this or this....
Whit Cow-Print Swingy Dress, $86.80

Halston Heritage Sleeveless Ruched Dress, $72.28
You think to yourself, life is good, your dressed in two second flat and walk out the door.  You might even have time to get a Starbucks coffee with the time and money you saved.

True Love + Frugality = Closet Disasters

We all do it, buy clothes for our husbands, in the style we wish they were, instead of how they are.  Thank God for this, or we would have a bunch of men running around in gym shorts and sports jerseys. I have officially stopped buying clothes for my husband.  Ninety-nine percent of the time when I come home with something for him, it is returned for a plaid shirt of some kind.  My husband has the short sleeve version, the sporty version, the going out version, and the flannel version, all of which he owns in a variety of colors.  Fortunately time is measured by the change of seasons, not the change of clothes.  I guarantee I wouldn't know how old I am if I had to use my husband's weekend "uniform" as the gauge.

Yesterday I spent the afternoon with a wonderful couple and their three kids. Lindsey hired me to help her husband go through his clothes and organize what he wears.  She felt like he was lost when getting dressed, whether for work or going out.

In any closet edit the one of the questions I ask about every article of clothing is "do you wear this?"  Responses to the tune of "I didn't know I had it" or "I haven't ever/ in a few years" means it needs to go. Lindsey's husband was holding on to stuff because she bought it for him, and she was buying him stuff because it was a good deal.  This combination of true love and frugality can only turn out one way...

I present to you the donation pile.
In these bags are clothes that have never been worn, AC/DC t-shirts from the late 80's, pants so wide Lindsey and her husband could have fit in them together.

When your closet gets to the point that you have more swimsuits than shorts, you never have to wear the same pair of jeans twice in a month, and you can't see what you own, something has to give.  Thankfully, we created five bags for donation, two bins of seasonally inappropriate clothes, and recycled about one hundred dry-cleaning hangers.  Our day was officially done!
Viola

My suggestion to women of the world, stop buying things for your husband because you think they need it.  I promise when they are down to their last dress shirt and all the buttons have fallen off their pants, with replacements no where in sight, they will let you know they need more clothes.  At that point you can go crazy, have a heyday.  Until that happens, spend the money on yourself!

Buy more, save more, no shipping, no tax- sign me up!

I have been eyeing this Helmut Lang skirt for well over a month. Every day I check the price at Nordstrom, Neimans, Saks, Bloomingdales, Yoox, etc., waiting for the best deal.  At $335 I cannot even think about it.
Nordstrom has it on sale for $200.98, which is far better, but still not discounted enough.

So today,  in going through my normal online search,  I noticed that Bloomingdales finally marked it down.  If you don’t know, Bloomingdales is like Macy’s is that they are ALWAYS offering some sort of deal, discount, promotion.  With a quick online search, I found a promo code for online shopping- SUMMER.
The more you buy, the more you save, ranging from 20%-40% off your purchase of qualifying items.  Orders over $150 ship for free, and if you live where there isn’t a Bloomingdales, (helloooo Denver) there is no sale tax.

This savvy shopper saved well over 50% and can hardly wait to live in this skirt this summer.

I am a little nervous to post this.

About a month ago I was at my favorite Denver store, Last Call, and saw my dream Gucci bag for $800, marked down from $3000.  But guilt got the best of me, and I passed it up.  I have been thinking about it ever since.  So I spent yesterday, calling EVERY Last Call store in the country looking for it. Don't judge me, we all have our vices. Alas, the bag is sold out.

I found out from another fashion blogger that Gucci is having a 1/2 off sale that started over the weekend. I thought I could find my dream bag on sale and call it a day.  But of course, Gucci doesn't make the bag anymore.  I searched every resale online site, I called every Gucci outlet, and I swear my dream bag is not available at my dream price point.

My dream bag, priceless

I am now really kicking myself.  But then today I decided to call the Gucci store in Aspen.  Since 4:30 this afternoon Danielle in Aspen has been sending me sale pictures, quoting me prices, digging in the back closet to find a steal for me.  If you are in the market for a designer bag, you should call Danielle in Aspen.  Here are a few pics of the goods and the phone # for the Aspen store, 970-920-9150

Prices range from $650 to $1500.  You can see some additional bags online, but you have to ask Danielle for the website.

The Mothership Pulls One Out

Much to my surprise, Nordstrom had the steal of the day today.  I love Nordstrom, don't get me wrong, my college girlfriends and I refer to it as "the Mothership." However, they don't have the best sales.  Their discount percentage rarely goes more than 40% off, so I was really caught off guard today when I found this bag, at the Nordstrom in Cherry Creek, for just about $700ish.

The picture doesn't do it justice. No online link today, as the web says it is sold out.  First come, first serve in Cherry Creek.

Heaven for Betsey this was a steal

Wedding season is upon us and it can get really expensive, especially if you're attending a destination wedding.  If you can save on the dress you wear, when you likely won't be saving elsewhere, it can be a good deal all around.

I found this Betsy Johnson dress for my gorgeous client who was on a dress budget this summer (with three weddings to attend).  The second she put this Betsey Johnson dress on, she fell in love. It was an instant hit with her and with me. I was tempted that same day to go get one.

Betsey Johnson, Tiered Cotton/Linen Maxi Dress, originally $178 now $90.99

Couch or purse

I've dreamed of having a white leather couch, but with two kids and two dogs, it probably wouldn't be my smartest move.  I don't want the 1980's Lazy-boy style (like my friend Hillary used to have) but rather a sleek, mid-century modern beauty.  But since it is not in my cards at the present moment, why not go for the second best option, a new purse.

With summer just around the corner a white handbag seems like a totally reasonable choice, especially when it is on sale and then another 60% off.  Reed Krakoff is having a clearance sale and then you get to take an additional 60% off. This white beauty, originally $2190 can be yours for about $350, which isn't too bad.  In fact, it is downright reasonable.  In addition to this bag, you can find some great shoes, clothes and other handbags for ridiculous prices as well.  Enjoy.

I can't stop thinking about these pants.

How can you blame me? Cute, comfy, stylish, reasonably priced (especially when I plan to wear them almost everyday).
I saw these over the weekend, when shopping for a new friend/client, on a sales person.  She had them on in black, with a sweater half tucked in, and flats. I'm not normally a Free People fan.  While "festival wear" is all the rage on fashion blogs these days, even the festivalites are ready for a little change.  Hence my apprehension about going into the store and actually checking the pants out for myself.

With minutes to spare before I had to be home, I popped into the store just to take a peek. I didn't have time to try them on, but loved them even more at second sight. When I could get close I could truly see the fabric and it is fantastic. It is far better than sweatpants, much more luxurious than any pair of work pants you own.

So go for it, get them in black or red, dress them up or dress them down. If nothing else, wear them to work instead of a dress.  You'll love them, I promise.

At the end of a fifteen hour day, this is all I need.

It all started today at 6:00 a.m. After playing musical beds with my four year old last night, she woke up ready to play. Shortly thereafter, the eighteen-month old got up and we were off two the races.
Two kids up, fed and ready for school. Check.
Workout, grocery store, dogs walked. Done
Clothes taken in to consignment, Nordstrom Rack visit. Check.
Networking meeting, more shopping, get girls from school. Done.
Two kids fed, adult dinner prepped, two kids bathed and the little one sleeping. TIME FOR A LARGE GLASS OF WINE.

Then I remembered, my fashion find of the day.  I am sporting them right now, and they are amazing. This is quite possibly the best fifteen dollars I have ever spent.  The super glam slippers below are sequined geniuses, ready to make your princess obsessed, little girls, jealous (bargaining chip anyone?). They are fleece lined, machine washable and utterly dreamy.  My gym socks are officially retired from my after work wardrobe.
I found these today at Castle Home Decor in Cherry Creek.  The store is certainly not my go to fashion mecca, but it will be my go to gift spot from here on out. You won't believe how many great things there are to buy in this fantastic store.   I had the pleasure of meeting Sydney Kelker there today, and after showing me her stash of Snoozies in her register drawer, I was sold.  So if your days are like mine, and you need comfort more than Christian Louboutin's, I suggest heading for some Snoozies, ASAP.

Victoria, I think even you can smile about this.

In Cherry Creek North, is a fantastic store, MAX.  Walking in on the upper level you can easily be intimidated by the prices.  Think New York City, Fifth Ave, not a single item on sale.

But tucked away in the back of the store, is a small stairwell that leads to amazing treasures.  At the end of this rainbow is a fantastic pot of gold. You can call it the designer jackpot if you'd like, because that is literally what it is.  You will find clothes from Lavin, Bottega, Maria Cornejos, Celine and a variety of designers you've never heard of, but can't get enough of.  To top it all off, the prices are insane.

I stopped in today and found at least four things I had to convince myself I could live without.  But for those of you on the quest for some new spring items, you need to get in there soon.  These two dresses from Victoria, By Victoria Beckham were two of the fantastic articles I found for astonishing prices.

Victoria, By Victoria Beckham, Cotton Dress in Navy Borderie Anglaise, originally $595, now $99.

Victoria, By Victoria Beckham, Silk Tee Mini-Dress, originally $920, now $99.

South Pearl Sale-tastic

Last fall I spent some time on South Pearl street, drinking beer and shopping with some of my best girls. I haven't been back since, until last week. I decided to focus more on local businesses this year as the fashion scene in Denver continues to get better and better. There are some great shops on South Pearl. Melrose and Madison is over there and is a fantastic boutique. There were racks and racks of great brands you'd typically find at a major retailer. They had a ton of stuff on sale reduced 30-50%, all with great finds.

And then I stumbled upon the $50 rack. This rack pretty much made my Monday (and the fact that I was kid and spouse free ALL day)!  I found this great dress, still available in all sizes.
Red23 Dress with Leather Pocket, originally $145, now $50.
You can wear it now with your tights and boots/booties and then wear it again in the spring. You will live in this dress, I promise.

Post Valentine's Day Love Fest

Valentine's Day and President's Day all in the same weekend means you get to buy yourself a little something, and most likely on sale.  Yesterday the Garment District started their winter clearance sale.  This means an extra 25% off their already reduced prices.  While I love a good deal, I was not really into buying wool sweaters or boots this time of year.  But the Garment District, as I loving refer to as "the jean's store" has a lot more to offer.  If you want designer jeans, this is the place for you.

Hudson, St Martens Carly Straight Jean, originally $187, on sale for $90.

G-Star, Ford Straight Medium Aged Jean, originally $158, on sale for $75
Denver folks, men included, go check it out.  http://garmentdistrictcolorado.com/

My evil eye

I've been known to throw one. I've been the recipient of my three year old's.  But now I want to wear one.  I have been obsessing over having an evil eye necklace, sadly inspired by Kyle Richards on RHWBH.  While I am sure Kyle's budget is significantly higher than mine, I wasn't too hard pressed to find one I like.

Tai, Evil Eye Pendant Necklace, originally $112, now $53

Stay warm, be stylish, leave your puffy vest at home.

I say this of course, after three absolutely beautiful days in Denver, with 70 degree temps and not a fleck of snow in sight.  So I was hard pressed today when walking into Ralph Lauren's 75% off sale to even dream of looking at coats, until I found this.

Ralph Lauren is not usually my speed, probably because it reminds me of my mom, but this coat is fantastic!  It is a super heavy weight wool with adorable closures and a hood.  Originally $600, you can get it today for $150.  I looked online, but it is not available, so you'll have to walk into the store if you want one.  If you love me enough you can buy me one for Valentine's Day.

Landin' Some Lanvin

It felt like spring today, 75 degrees in Denver, the middle of January. I had to walk in Cherry Creek a bit today and visit my friend, Janice at Kouture. So glad I did! She has a whole slew of fantastic handbags for sale that you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere in Denver.  I found the perfect spring bag, waiting for me (but  not my wallet). This beauty will set you back about $900, which is a steal compared to the normal $3000 retail price..  This bag is in excellent shape, I doubt it was ever worn.
If this bag is out of your budget or not on your list, go check out Kouture anyway.  There is a great variety of never worn shoes, clothes and handbags at a fraction of their normal cost.

Wednesday, January 21, 2015

Sometimes, when final sale is 85% off, it seems ok to take the leap.

I love a good sale! Finding things discounted beyond 70-80% off the normal retail price is virtually impossible.  However, today Barney's Warehouse decided to offer 70% off their sale price. For those of you going someplace warm this winter, and you don't want to drag out last year's summer gems, hit up the Warehouse sale for some really fantastic options from swimsuits, to shorts, to dresses and shoes.  For those of you not heading somewhere warm, there are a few other cold weather finds in the mix. Check it out here and if you get the stuff home, and it doesn't work for you, you can take it to a resale shop and earn your money back.
Maiyet Abstract Frog-Print Shirt- originally $525, now $72

Be Different, It's Very "In"

I think one of my favorite this to shop for is the perfect handbag.  I have a ton in my closet, that I use for a while and then retire because I get bored with it, or find something better. I recently joined a local Facebook group in Denver, where people post about the goods they make. Naturally I joined, because I like to make people look good (those who can't, teach, right?) . Anyway, the founder of the group makes BEAUTIFUL handmade leather bags, all one of a kind.  Her posts really caught my eye a few weeks back, but today, this stunner made me excited.
Upon perusing the site even more, I came across this clutch, which is equally fantastic.

All designs  are made from designer, ethically sourced leather,  in different treatments, colors and textures.

These are truly great bags, with a different edge.  The next time you're shopping about and looking at someone's handbag, wondering if it is real or fake, and having some bag envy think of this post and go buy one of these bags.  I promise you'll get compliments and you'll know, your bag is the real deal, one of a kind, beauty.

You can see more bags at www.buxiejobags.com or https://www.facebook.com/buxiejobags
Full size bags range from $125-$175, wallets and wristlets from $45-$60.

It's a Girl....

... Thing!
I don't think men can truly appreciate a good sale. I realize this is a huge over generalization, but for the most part, true.  Today is the start of the Neiman Marcus Last Call sale, where items are discounted up to 65% off.  With over 8000 items on sale for women and just over 700 on sale for the guys, I think Neimans agrees with me; a good sale is gender specific.

This is the time, ladies, when you stock up and/or splurge on the one-of-a-kind item you've been eyeing, but can justify.  For me it is this DFV skirt, that I have obsessed over since mid-October.
Originally $768, it is now marked down to $268. Granted, I have no business buying the skirt, as I don't know where I'd wear it, but there is no denying it is beautiful.

There are a variety of other great finds, ranging from $25 to $10,000+.  You just need to fin the right piece for you!

Beauty Intermission

For those of you who've known me since my high school days and especially those of you who met my my freshmen year in college, you know that I am not a make-up and hair whiz. While I can spend my days online shopping, I have also been known to look online endlessly for the perfect hairstyle.  To date, I don't know that I've found it.

Anyway, last Saturday night, by girlfriend and I were living large.  We left our husbands with the kids at 3:30 for some post-holiday shopping/ deal finding, and a "blue hair special" for dinner (yes, I think we sat down to eat at 6:00 ).  While we were having a blast we, were both lamenting about our less than attractive hairstyles that day.  I looked like I had Peyot and postpartum bang growth combined with a side-part pony tail, I think I girlfriend was wearing a Scrunchie!!!  Really!!!!

To quote my friend, she stated it simply, "I don't really have a go-to hairstyle when I don't want to style my hair."

Mary, this is for you.
